Quirk’s Players: A Performance For A Cause

FULTON – G. Ray Bodley High School senior Jeremy Herlowski has always been dedicated to his theatrical performances and his portrayal of Uncle Fester in the Quirk’s Players recent production of “The Addams Family” was no different.

When the use of wig caps floundered, Herlowski knew there was only one way to achieve the perfect Uncle Fester bald-headed look: shave his head.

Shortly before the March 9, 10 and 11 shows in GRB’s auditorium, Herlowski buzzed his hair and morphed into the quirky, uncanny character.

Just after the change in hair style, he had confided in some friends that he wished he had set up a pledge account for the St. Baldrick’s campaign to raise money to help fight childhood cancer.

A local shaving event to benefit the campaign will take place later this month in Oswego.

Fellow Quirk’s Players member and GRB student Sarah Fisch spoke to her castmates and directors of the spring musical and organized a collection for St. Baldrick’s in Herlowski’s name.

By the closing night of the show, students, teachers and supporters collected more than $400.

Tom Briggs, director of the musical, said he couldn’t be more proud of Herlowski, Fisch and all of the students and adults involved in the act of kindness.

“We work with some amazing students in our school district; Sarah and Jeremy are two outstanding examples,” Briggs said. “They put others above themselves and certainly enrich our community.”
