Sandy Creek Elementary School hosted the final Family Reading Night of the 2012-13 school year. Students in pre-kindergarten through grade five along with their family members were invited to participate in an evening of Reading Olympics. Fueled by a complimentary pizza dinner, guests participated in a triathlon of interactive, reading-themed activities including a reader’s theater, family fitness challenges and some mind games. Holding the team flag they made during the event are Michael and Samantha Ranieri competing in a fast-paced word-generating game called Word Chain. The Ranieri’s along with the other participants were given the word “mud” then asked to change only one letter to make a new word and then continue on to see how many words they can make. Elementary school staff host several Family Reading Night events during a school year to give parents and students an opportunity to participate in fun activities while enjoying the benefits of reading, learning and working together.
