The International Taste Festival’s 5K and 10K run returns for a second year with more than $2,000 in award certificates and the best post-race food ever. The run, presented by Willow Running USA, this event is part of the Dick’s Sporting Goods Family Fit Series, begins at 10:15 a.m. for the 10K and 10:30 a.m. for the 5K at the New York State Fairgrounds. The Center of Progress Building will serve as the start and finish lines.
The race benefits the non-profit David’s Refuge[1], which cites as its mission, “To provide respite, resources and support to parents and guardians of children with special needs or life threatening medical conditions where they will be refreshed, restored and renewed in their role as caregivers.”
The races will be run on some of the streets of the Fairgrounds and on the paved New York State Empire Trail, providing a scenic run along Onondaga Lake. Registration is $45 for the 5K and $55 for the 10K run and can be done online[2] through March 30. Each runner will receive a custom long sleeve shirt and finisher medal as well as free admission to the International Taste Festival, which begins at the end of the run. Runners can also purchase discounted admission tickets for family members – see the race registration page for details.
The International Taste Festival features delicious food, talented performers and interesting crafts from around the world. USA Today just named the event one of the 20 best city food festivals in America. Advance sale admission tickets are available here [3]for $5. Admission at the door will be $10. Children ages 10 and under are admitted free of charge. Parking on the Fairgrounds is free.
“Offering a 5K/10K run to kick off the festival is a great opportunity for us to bring together even more members of the community. As the runners enjoy a morning of exercise, followed by an afternoon with their families, all will be able to celebrate local diversity and worldwide culture.” said festival organizer Stephanie Pestillo.
Everyone who finishes the race will receive custom medals. Gift certificates courtesy of Dick’s Sporting Goods will be given to the male and female winners of the overall and masters division races as well as awards for age group winners.
Full details on all aspects of the festival can be found on its website[4].
