FULTON – Parents of Special Children, Inc., will hold its sixth annual AIM High with PSC on October 17 from 5 – 8 p.m.
This free event will take place at the Fulton Alliance Church, 1044 NY Route 48, Fulton, and is open to the public.
Participants are asked to park and enter through the back doors for easy access to the program.
The focus of the evening will be two-part.
There will be a resource fair open from 5 – 8 p.m. where people can come and go as they please.
There will be a variety of agencies and businesses that provide a service to individuals with developmental disabilities and their families.
Professionals will be available to talk with those in attendance and will have information on their services to distribute.
A presentation on “Assistive Technology in Special Education & Beyond” will take place from 6 – 7:30 p.m. with Ryan McDonald, staff attorney at Disability Rights New York.
He will share key points on Assistive Technology and education law and the process used to determine if a student requires AT.
Participants will learn: (1) How to request assistive technology evaluations and ensure AT devices and services are provided through an IEP or 504 Plan and (2) Funding options for assistive technology in schools with information about applicable laws and regulations.
Following the presentation, there will be a 30-minute session for questions and answers.
Parents of Special Children is a non-profit agency, funded through the New York State Office for People with Developmental Disabilities, Family Support Services, private donations and local fundraising events.
The agency’s goal is to support families who are caring for individuals with developmental disabilities by assisting with reimbursements of goods and services that allow them to better care for their individuals.
Parents of Special Children is a parent-driven organization, dedicated to family empowerment and improving the quality of the everyday lives of special needs families.
