PULASKI, NY – The Salmon River Fine Arts Center announced the winners of its 28th annual Oswego County Student Art Show. There were 372 students who submitted artwork in this year’s competition, which will be on display until Saturday, May 11.
Gallery hours run from noon to 6 p.m. on Thursdays and Fridays and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays at the Salmon River Fine Arts Center, 4848 N. Jefferson St., Pulaski.
“Art is such an important vehicle for understanding each other and the world,” said Billie Jo Peterson, show co-chair and art teacher. “I always look forward to seeing all the new work each year.”

Every year, the competition is open to public, private and home-schooled students in grades 7 through 12 across the county. Artwork can be submitted in six different categories: digital art, drawing, mixed media/printmaking, painting, photography, sculpture and fine craft.
This year’s judges were Cynthia Clabough, department chair and professor at SUNY Oswego, and Charlotte Arcadi, retired K-12 art teacher and current art instructor at Cayuga Community College.
Cash awards were given for “Best of Show” and first, second and third place in each of the six categories for two age groups: grade 7-9 and grade 10-12. In addition, several special awards were given by local businesses that sponsored the show. In total, $2,400 in cash prizes and 70 ribbons were awarded to the students.
The art show is made possible thanks to the generosity of local community-minded businesses and individuals such as this year’s sponsors, Deaton’s ACE Building and Home Center and Agway Stores, Community Bank, NA Pulaski branch, NBT Bank Pulaski branch, and the Oswego Printing/Port City Copy Center, as well as the dedicated art teachers who encourage their students and help Salmon River Fine Art Center volunteers.
The Salmon River Fine Arts Center is an all-volunteer run, 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization that offers community art programs for all ages, hands-on workshops and art shows that help educate and enrich the local community.
