Sandy Creek Elementary Celebrates 100 Days of School

Neither rain, nor sleet, nor hail, nor snow, snow and more snow could keep Sandy Creek Elementary School from celebrating a centennial milestone in late February.

On February 28, classes at the school commemorated the 100th day of the 2013-14 school year with celebrations to recognize months of hard work and academic achievements.

Students came to school dressed as 100 year old versions of themselves and classroom lessons for the day revolved around the number 100.

Students practiced their math skills by counting to 100 by ones, fives, and tens and then practiced bundling numbers into groups of 10.

They enjoyed a 100th day of school cartoon, participated in a math scavenger hunt and played other math games.

Classrooms made lists of the 100 things they would like to have and 100 things that they would not like to have.

Puppies, Legos, and books topped the ‘haves’ list while alligators, beets, and houses topped the ‘have nots.’

Students in first grade shared 100 projects that they created at home, on their own time with the help of a friend or a family member.

Some of the projects included sticker pages with 100 stickers, T-shirts with 100 buttons sewn on, a ‘taste the rainbow’ poster using 100 Skittles candies, homemade brownies baked with 100 peanut butter chips, and a solar system with 100 stars.

The first graders shared their projects in front of their class, describing how they came up with the idea for their project, how they made their project, how long it took, what tools they needed to complete the project, and who helped at home.
