OSWEGO COUNTY – Students from Sandy Creek Central School District recently participated in the Public Safety and Armed Forces Expo hosted by CiTi BOCES as part of the CiTi Career Connection Series.
Representatives from the Marine Corps, Navy, Army, National Guard, Air Force, police, fire and EMT services, as well as environmental conservation professionals, shared valuable insight into their careers, daily responsibilities and pathways available to students interested in public service professions.
“I feel that it is important to expose our students to experiences and individuals that they do not usually see in their daily lives,” said Sandy Creek teacher Robert Ferguson. “This event allowed a firsthand interaction with those who make daily sacrifices so that they may live in a safe, protected environment. They could actually see and hear what they do as well as ask specific questions. I feel our students benefited in several ways by attending this event, most of all is building their character.”
The expo helped students gain firsthand exposure to career opportunities while learning about the dedication, training and skills required in careers focused on serving and protecting communities.
Sandy Creek Central School District extends its appreciation to CiTi BOCES, participating agencies and presenters for helping make the event a success and providing students with meaningful career exploration opportunities.
