The New York State Department of Transportation announced that on Monday August 18, 2008, Route 49 will be closed to traffic to facilitate culvert replacement near the town of Palermo. The culvert is located approximately two miles west of the intersection of routes 49 and 264, and approximately one mile east of the intersection of routes 49 and 3. The detour is expected to be in effect for approximately 60 days.
Through traffic is advised to follow the designated detour route:
For travelers heading east on route 49, the detour begins at the intersection of routes 49 and 3. Proceed east on route 3 to the intersection of routes 3 and 264. Proceed south on route 264 to the intersection of routes 264 and 49.
For travelers heading west on route 49, the detour begins at the intersection of routes 49 and 264. Proceed north on route 264 to the intersection of routes 264 and 3. Proceed west on route 3 to the intersection of routes 3 and 49.
Motorists are reminded that fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone. In accordance with the Work Zone Safety Act of 2005, convictions of two or more speeding violations in a work zone could result in the suspension of the driver’s license.
