SHERIFF’S OFFICE TO HOLD POLICE ACADEMY INFO NIGHT

FULTON – Oswego County Sheriff’s Office announces an Informational Night for anyone interested in learning more about becoming a certified police officer and/or pursuing a degree in Criminal Justice. This Info Night is on Monday, February 17 at 7:00 at Cayuga Community College, Fulton Campus, 11 River Glen Dr, Fulton, NY 13069. The evening session will explain the new partnership between Cayuga Community College and Oswego County Regional Police Academy, which will offer a full-time Police Academy for sworn Officers as well as Phase 1 Pre-Employment Police Basic Training Course for pre-employment candidates. Other topics include civil service timeline, background check process, physical fitness standards, testimonials, interaction with partner agencies and a tour of the facility.

This new program will provide successful graduates with up to __ college credits and a certificate of completion from the New Yok State Certified Basic Police Training Course, which is a legal requirement for municipal police officers in New York State.

This partnership offers candidates wishing for a job in law enforcement several pathways to their career:

A Phase 1 candidate may enroll through the College and attend a full-time Police Academy to receive a Police Academy certificate valid for 2 years that will allow an agency to hire them, then only require a 3-week course before starting them in Field training.

A 2-year program is also available to students that will allow them to attend college full-time. Their first year completing courses in a Criminal Justice degree with the second year completing the Police Academy training. This allows the student to achieve both their A.A.S. degree in Criminal Justice as well as a Phase 1 Basic Academy Certificate.

These programs help prepare students for careers in law enforcement by providing training in a variety of areas including criminal investigation, road patrol, surveillance (drones), drug enforcement and K-9 units.

Local police agencies will also attend the Info Night including Academy partners Fulton City Police Department and Oswego City Police Department, as well as Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office, Phoenix Police Department, and Pulaski Police Department. Instructors from the Police Academy will also be available to answer questions.
