Silent Movie Matinee Nov. 18 features ‘Seven Chances’

OSWEGO – Bruce and Nancy Radloff will screen the Buster Keaton comedy “Seven Chances” at 3 p.m. on Nov. 18 at the Church of the Resurrection in Oswego.

Nancy Radloff will accompany the film on piano.

The event will be open to the public.

Donations are welcome.

Refreshments will be provided.

The Church of the Resurrection, Oswego’s Episcopal church, is at the corner of West Fifth and Cayuga streets.

The entry to the church’s Great Hall, where the movie will be shown, faces Cayuga Street.

In the 1925 film, starring and directed by Keaton, a struggling businessman learns he will inherit $7 million if he marries by 7 p.m. that day, his 27th birthday.

But his chosen one turns him down.

When his friends try to help, all heck break loose, and a foot chase through town and into the hills ensues.

Film critic David Schwartz wrote, “Keaton proves he’s a master at building the comedy until it reaches its absolute breaking point.”

Time Out London called the film “a dazzlingly balletic comedy” with “a fantastically elaborate, gloriously inventive chase sequence.”

The Radloffs are retired and own a vineyard in Interlaken.

A pianist, organist and composer, Nancy Saultz Radloff received her doctorate in performance from the Johns Hopkins University’s Peabody Conservatory of Music.

She has performed throughout the East and Midwest on piano and pipe organ.

She was the director of music at St. John’s Church in Ithaca from 1999 to 2014 and choir director at Oswego’s Church of the Resurrection in 2015.

She served on the faculty of the Leadership Program for Musicians in Central New York from 2012 to 2014.
