OSWEGO – The Oswego County Breastfeeding, Chestfeeding, and Lactation Friendly New York (BFFNY) program is proud to announce that St. Luke Health Services, 299 E. River Rd. in Oswego, has officially been designated as both a BFFNY Certified Lactation Friendly Public Space and a Lactation Friendly Workplace.
This dual certification recognizes the skilled nursing and rehabilitation facility’s comprehensive commitment to supporting families—not only within the broader community but also among its own dedicated workforce.
In achieving the Workplace designation, St. Luke has gone beyond physical space by adapting internal policies to specifically support employees returning to work after leave. These policy updates ensure that staff members have the necessary time, space, and institutional support to continue their lactation journey while maintaining their professional roles.
“St. Luke Health Services is setting a high standard for how organizations can support the ‘whole person,’” said Kimberly Zimmer, BFFNY Program Manager. “By combining accessible public spaces with supportive employee policies, they are addressing a critical link in the health and retention of our local workforce.”
By achieving these formal certifications, St. Luke Health Services ensures that visiting family members, guests, and employees have access to a dedicated, comfortable, and private area for infant feeding. This initiative highlights the facility’s role as a vital community hub where parents can feel fully supported while visiting loved ones or providing essential care on-site.
The addition of a prominent healthcare provider like St. Luke into the BFFNY network sends a powerful message that Oswego is a place where families of all generations are valued. It ensures that essential community spaces—including residential healthcare centers—are accessible and inclusive for parents and their infants.
