OSWEGO COUNTY – The Mexico Academy & Central School District will mark its bicentennial on Saturday, June 20, with a full day of events honoring 200 years of educational excellence, community pride, and tradition in central Oswego County.

Students, staff, alumni, families and community members alike are invited to take part in the celebration, which will feature school tours, community activities, historical experiences and opportunities for alumni to reconnect.

The day will begin with tours of district buildings, including the historic One-Room Schoolhouse on the Palermo Elementary campus. Transportation will be available to help visitors travel between schools throughout the district. In partnership with the village of Mexico, attendees also can participate in guided tours and view historic homes within the community.

Beginning at noon, the celebration will continue with a district-wide picnic at the town VFW along Scenic Avenue. Tickets will be available for $10 in advance of the picnic from any MACS Board of Education member or by calling the district office at 315-963-8400. A limited number of tickets will be available on the day of the event for $12 at the VFW.

The picnic is inspired by a similar gathering held 100 years ago and is intended to bring together generations of the Mexico community. Attendees can enjoy live music, games, face painting and family-friendly activities throughout the afternoon.

The day will conclude with the MACS Alumni Banquet at 5 p.m. in the High School Auditorium. This year’s event will feature desserts and provide alumni an opportunity to celebrate the district’s history while reconnecting with classmates and friends.

The bicentennial celebration reflects the district’s continued commitment to honoring its past while inspiring excellence and leadership for future generations, officials noted.

Mexico Academy & Central School District, celebrating 200 years throughout 2025-26, serves approximately 2,000 students in central Oswego County. Its five school buildings cover an area of roughly100 miles, including the towns of Hastings, New Haven, Mexico, Palermo, Parish, Richland, Scriba and Volney.
