OSWEGO, NY — Students from SUNY Oswego are making a meaningful impact in the local community through a service-learning initiative focused on health and wellness.
As part of HSC 470: Health Promotion Implementation, taught by Dr. Minjung Seo, 16 undergraduate students from the Health Promotion and Wellness program partnered with St. Francis Commons to deliver their Zestful Living Program.
The student-led program engaged more than 20 community residents in interactive sessions designed to promote healthy behaviors and overall well-being. Through evidence-based strategies and hands-on activities, students were provided with practical tools to support physical, mental, and social wellness.
“This experience allowed our students to apply what they’ve learned in the classroom to real-world settings while making a positive difference in the community,” said Seo. “It’s a powerful example of how service-learning enhances both student learning and community impact.”
The initiative reflects SUNY Oswego’s commitment to experiential education and aligns with the SUNY Oswego 40/40 Vision, which ensures that every student participates in high-impact learning experiences before graduation.
For the students, the experience offered valuable professional development, including program planning, implementation, and community engagement, key skills for future careers in public health and wellness.
The partnership with St. Francis Commons highlights the strong connections between SUNY Oswego and the greater Oswego community, demonstrating how collaborative efforts can support healthier, more connected communities.
