SUNY Oswego to Host Publishing Festival on October 15th

On Wednesday October 15th, The SUNY Oswego Creative Writing Department will be hosting the third in a series of biennial Publishing Festivals. Taking place on campus within the Marano Campus Center at 3:00 pm, with a following reception at 4:20.

The event will host three notable editors and authors including SUNY Oswego alumni Becky Oliver DiGenova and Susan Velasquez Colmant as well as Shannon Plackis.

Becky Oliver DiGenova has written for Jane Magazine and Forbes. She is well versed in the field of business and currently works as a Senior Editor at Fitch Ink.

Susan Velasquez Colmant is a Literary Director and Subsidiary Rights Director at JABberwocky Literary Agency. She also manages a personal client list, favoring those who write romantic and character driven stories.
Upon inquiry as to what advice she would offer for those wishing to enter the publishing business, she responded “Focus on strengthening your writing and communication skills, especially for cover letters… Your cover letter can be the key to standing out…”

Shannon Plackis is a senior editor at Avonbooks, having edited authors like Kate Clayborn and Katie Siegal, with Plackis herself being a PEN American Literary Award finalist.

All three guests will be answering questions and discussing techniques within their industry that allowed them to thrive, and SUNY Oswego encourages any who might be interested in the event to attend.
