Tie Dye T-Shirts a Colorful Lesson For Leighton Students

OSWEGO – Splashes of color were displayed throughout the art room at Leighton Elementary as all students recently participated in a school-wide tie dye event.
Under the direction of art teacher Michele Gorham, students learned about the complete tie dying process.
With three days of excitement, students spiraled their own T-shirts and used rubber bands to hold them in place.
Primary students utilized primary colors, including yellow for kindergarten, red for first grade and blue for second grade.
Intermediate students in grades three, four, and five created secondary colors by mixing two primary colors.
Orange, purple and green were the colors of the third graders, fourth graders and fifth graders, respectively.
Meanwhile, Gorham challenged the sixth graders to make rainbow shirts using all colors.
Once the dye had been added and shirts sat overnight, the students rinsed their shirts and revealed the colorful patterns.
Gorham said the T-shirts may be worn on class field trips, school events, assemblies or other special events.
