Lura Sharp Elementary School held a very special Veterans’ Day ceremony to honor the men and women of the Armed Forces for their service and mark the holiday.

The students invited members of their family or neighbors who have or are currently serving in the Armed Forces to the patriotic event coordinated by Kelly Shumway, a teacher at the school.
Shumway thanked Dr. Marshall and administrators at the school for allowing her to continue the meaningful tradition, and thanked others who helped her pull the event together.
Approximately 100 veterans attended the special event which featured a flag tribute to the U.S. Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard and Marine Corps, several readings by students, a chorus performance, a special song tribute to the veterans by all students and staff members at the school, and a video that featured a photo montage that students and staff members brought in of their friends…family…heroes.

The moving tribute was a fitting honor for those gathered at the school and those who gave all in service to our country.
In an emotional pledge, Shumway told the veterans gathered, “We honor you,” adding, “we remember you, and we will teach our children, so they will never forget the sacrifices you and others made so that we can be free.”
Following the ceremony, a reception was held in the lobby of the school for the veterans and their family members.
