VOLNEY – Despite forecasts for rain showers, Volney Elementary School’s annual Earth Day celebration was greeted by dry skies and students excited to learn about nature, safety and protecting our environment.

This fun-filled day of interactive learning kicked off with a Songs and the Wild presentation, highlighting animals and ecosystems around the globe through music.
Classes then embarked on a guided tour of their chosen Earth Day activities.
Throughout the event, students explored the school to learn about the various topics, including alternative energy, anti-littering campaigns, recycling, canoe building, bass fishing, dog agility, dog obedience, veterinary medicine, farming, electrical safety, sun safety, invasive species, fly fishing, birds of prey, parrots, bats, rocks and minerals, summer safety and using nature to create art.

Festivities came to a close with a school-wide assembly.
Students and staff were delighted to take a special journey through the history of Volney’s Earth Day celebrations with photographs.
Students were encouraged by guests to make every day Earth Day, by making good decisions to protect themselves and the environment.
