Students at Volney Elementary School in the Fulton City School District received a healthy dose of music recently, as the Vitamin L Project, a group of Ithaca-based singers, visited the school to promote positive character development through the power of music.

The group, which consists of songwriter Jan Nirgo and nine singers, ages 11 to 21, encourages character development in young students through uplifting, inspiring song and lyrics.
Vitamin L has received recognition by New York state officials for promoting peace in schools and communities.
Messages delivered to Volney students included the importance of friendship, not to take anything for granted and the value of human rights.

At one point during the one-hour concert, Vitamin L even taught students sign language.
Laughter and singing echoed out of the school’s cafeteria, providing a concert atmosphere and proving the event to be a success.
At the conclusion of the concert, members of Vitamin L took the time to greet students as they departed back to their classrooms.
