Zonta Club of Oswego aids OCO SAF Program

OSWEGO, NY – Zonta Club of Oswego presented Oswego County Opportunity (OCO) Services to Aid Families (SAF) Program with a check for $5,000 in support of its work to raise awareness of domestic violence in Oswego County and provide services to survivors of domestic abuse.  The check represents the proceeds from the Zonta Club’s Witches Ball coupled with contributions from club members through fundraising activities.

“Zonta’s mission is to advocate for equality, education, and an end to child, marriage and gender-based violence,” said Zonta Club President Iraina Gerchman. “Through the Witches Ball and other fundraising efforts, the Zonta Club of Oswego continues to support the work of SAF in the battle against domestic violence in Oswego County. As the sole domestic violence and rape crisis provider for Oswego County, SAF provides both residential and non-residential services to victims and survivors via the 24/7 Crisis Hotline and in person. In 2022, SAF served nearly 650 survivors, answered more than 4,700 hotline calls from survivors, and provided 2,600 bed nights to 82 families staying at their domestic violence shelter.

“We appreciate the Zonta Club of Oswego and all that its members do for SAF,” said Coordinator of SAF Client Services, Karen Merrill.  “The need for our services continues to grow. Hotline calls come in daily, and advocates continue to work tirelessly to meet the needs of victims and survivors. Zonta’s contributions have a positive impact on the safety and wellbeing of the individuals and families we serve. We are thankful for the support we receive from them.”
