HANNIBAL – The Hannibal Senior High Instrumental Music Department will present a concert celebrating Music in Our Schools Month on March 17 at 7:30 p.m. in the high school’s Lockwood Auditorium.
The National Association for Music Education the month of March as a time to recognize the impact music has within our schools.
The Senior High Jazz Band will open the program with rousing selections in the swing genre that feature a traditional blues chord progression.
Featured soloists will be Amanda Kimball and Tessa Mann will on Jump, Jive an’ Wail, Nate LaRock on Fun Check.
Beginning with a commissioned work of Samuel Hazo, Drums of the Saamis, the Senior Band under the direction of Shirley Terrinoni, will present selections inspired by historical events as well as movies.
Hans Zimmer’s Man of Steel, utilizes synthesized sounds performed by Callie Cacchione to create the mystique of the film score.
Symphonic highlights from Frozen features many of the band’s members on brief melodic solos as they work their way through the best loved songs from the motion picture.
The final piece of the program allows the percussion section to shine, in an appropriately named selection by Randall Standridge, titled Ruckus.
