The American Red Cross of Central New York wrapped up its annual Heroes for the American Red Cross campaign on April 22, raising approximately $34,000 in support of its mission to offer compassionate services for domestic disaster relief; community services that help the needy; support and comfort for military members and their families; the collection, processing and distribution of lifesaving blood and blood products; educational programs that promote health and safety; and international relief and development programs.

Constellation Energy Nuclear Group (CENG) was proud to be a major sponsor of this year’s campaign. In addition, hundreds of employees and contractors working at CENG’s Nine Mile Point Nuclear Station (NMPNS) stepped up to participate in the campaign on-site. For a small donation, employees were able to write their name on a postcard that denoted them as Heroes. The postcards were displayed in a common area of the site. NMPNS employees and contractors raised $1,000 for the American Red Cross.

“Our greatest reward is seeing the communities in which we live and work prosper. The goals of the American Red Cross to provide a variety of services for our neighbors are directly in line with CENG’s commitment to invest meaningful time and resources in the communities we serve,” said Sam Belcher, Vice President – NMPNS.

“The efforts of all our Heroes this year were above and beyond our expectations. Without people in our community who want to help support the American Red Cross, we would not be able to have a successful campaign as we did. With the current situations in Japan and now in the Southern states, the monies raised will help assist the people and communities who are in need,” said Danielle Hayden, Oswego County branch director for the American Red Cross.

Heroes for the American Red Cross help spread the word about the services the American Red Cross provides, and they also raise the money that supports local needs for disaster relief, health and safety education and more.
