Corey King OHS Band ‘Musician Of The Month’

OSWEGO, NY – Corey King has been selected as the Oswego High School Bands “Musician of the Month.”

King is a senior member of the trumpet section of the Oswego High School Wind Ensemble.

He has been a member of the OHS Jazz Bands, both Jazz “B” and currently Jazz “A” as well as the Oswego High School Concert Band and Symphonic Band.

He has played trumpet with the Marching Buccaneers since 2005 and in 2009 was featured as one of the trumpet soloists.

He has prepared auditions for – and earned positions in – the Oswego County Music Educators Association All County bands in 2009 and in 2010.

Corey was also involved in NYSSMA Solo competition each of his years in high school.

Corey dedicates a considerable amount of his free time before and after school to maintain the ensemble set-ups in the band room.

He has also been a great asset to the Music Department assisting in the efforts to organize, file and maintain the music library and general music facilities.

Currently, Corey is involved in an apprenticeship after school hours with Dennis Farden at Midstate Music in Oswego.

He is observing the work of the craftsmen there who diagnose and repair hundreds of musical instruments from all around central New York every day.

Corey hopes to pursue a career as a musical instrument technician and repairman after graduation from Oswego High School.

Corey is a member of “Bugles Across America” dedicated to playing taps at the graveside services for our American veterans and he currently is a member of the Syracuse “Brigadiers” drum and bugle corps in Syracuse.

He is the son of Sandy and Howard King of Oswego.
