CORTLAND, N.Y. – Senior Blake Fisher (Seaford, N.Y.) recorded another win at 157 pounds combined with a Red Dragon forfeit, but it was not enough as Cortland, ranked third nationally in Division III, posted a 37-9 victory over the Lakers.
Oswego State was originally scheduled to face Coast Guard in addition to Cortland, but that match was canceled as Coast Guard was unable to make the trip to Cortland due to the snowstorm that hit the Northeast. The Lakers head to New England next weekend to face Western New England and Wesleyan.
Blake Fisher, who wrestled up a weight class from 165 won 6-0 at 157 pounds, while Dustin Jones won by forfeit at 149 pounds.
The closest match of the afternoon came at 174 pounds between Oswego State’s Eric Anderson and Cortland’s Josh Reed. Reed took a 5-4 lead on a reversal early in the third period, but Anderson used a reversal of his own with 1:04 remaining to go up 6-5. Reed tied the match on a technical violation and scored the winning points on a reversal with 13 seconds left.
The Red Dragons won three matches by pin. Jonathan Conroy pinned his opponent in 3:52 at 165 pounds. Lou Puca, ranked fourth nationally at 174 pounds, wrestled up a weight class at 184 and recorded a pin in 55 seconds. Jared Myhrberg, ranked first nationally at 197 pounds, pinned his foe in 4:39.
