Couple Arrested For Leaving Two Children In Hot Car


State Police in Hastings today (Aug. 17), arrested Amanda M. Aikens, age 29, from Central Square, NY and John R. Yelle, age 26, from Syracuse, NY, both were charged with Endangering the Welfare of a Child, a class “A” misdemeanor.

State Police were called to the Wal-Mart parking lot, East Avenue in Central Square for a reported children left inside a vehicle.

When troopers and EMS personnel arrived, they located a silver van with a 4-year-old girl sleeping and a 9-year-old boy inside sweating heavily, according to troopers.

Both children were treated at the scene and released.

Aikens along with Yelle stated they left the two children in the car while they went inside Wal-Mart to shop.

A passerby notified 911 after noticing the children in the car and were concerned for their welfare.

Aikens and Yelle were issued appearance tickets returnable to the Village of Central Square Court for August 26 at 5 p.m.

Oswego County Child Protective Services are assisting in the investigation.
