Courtney D. Fowler, Sr., 83, of Oswego, went to Heaven on Wednesday, January 5, 2011.
He was born in Hannibal on March 22, 1927 to the late Arthur and Jennie Fowler. As a young man Courtney joined the Navy where he served his country for four years. Upon returning home he married the love of his life Gladys Louise Kitts and together they raised three children.
He was an avid outdoorsman enjoying hunting and fishing. Retiring in 1986 after 17 years at Alcan Rolled Products in Scriba, Gladys and Courtney spent many winters in Florida.
Courtney was predeceased by his wife, Gladys who died in 2007; son, Gordon who died in 2004; daughter-in-law, Connie who died in 2010; brothers, Raymond (Marion) and Gordon (Fran) Fowler; sisters, Grace (Raymond) Crego and Verna Fowler.
Surviving: a daughter, Bonnieta G. Reed of Hannibal; a son, Courtney D. Fowler, Jr. of Hannibal; daughter-in-law, Debbie Fowler; grandchildren, William (Debbie) Loomis, Sean (Mary) Fowler, Jason (Jennifer) Loomis, Jamie Kells, Tammy (Chuck) Thomas, Scott (Miranda) Fowler, Matthew (Emily) Fowler and Brian Fowler; 19 great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Theodore Kitts; several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held privately in the spring at Fairdale Rural Cemetery in Hannibal. Calling hours are Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. at Foster Funeral Home, 837 Cayuga Street, Hannibal.
