Students enrolled in the Culinary Arts program at the Center for Instruction, Technology and Innovation are using the lessons learned in the classroom to prepare hundreds of lunches for upcoming events sponsored by Sen. Patty Ritchie.
After preparing several hundred lunches for the senator’s Oswego County Senior Health and Wellness Fair held Sept. 24, the students assembled another 900 lunches for a similar Jefferson County event held Oct. 1.
Through the hands-on learning experience, students developed teamwork skills while also learning the importance of proper organization, time management and cleanliness.
These life skills and culinary talents aided the aspiring chefs in preparing the lunches, instructor Sue Jerrett said.
“They’ve had good communication and have learned how to work as a team,” said Jerrett. “And they’ve really made a culinary connection.”
In addition to preparing hundreds of lunches for the Oswego and Jefferson County events, the students are also gearing up to prepare more meals for the St. Lawrence County Senior Health and Wellness Fair, set for Oct. 15.
