HANNIBAL – On the athletic fields and in the classroom, Hannibal Central School District’s Class of 2018 valedictorian Derek Cuyler strives for perfection.
Cuyler, the son of Jeff and Marlow Cuyler, said his work ethic has served him well so far and he will continue to give 100 percent in his future endeavors at Jefferson Community College.
He wants to study engineering sciences and play baseball for the Cannoneers.
While Cuyler noted he will miss his friends, classmates and teammates, he said he has many fond memories to cherish.
Those memories, he said, include being part of the Warrior family in a tight-knit community.
“I’ll remember the hundreds of dollars spent at the IGA, Dollar General and Susie’s every day after high school with my buds,” Cuyler said.
In addition to the community aspect, Cuyler said the school district played a pivotal role in his success.
“The Hannibal Central School District has shaped me into a hard-working individual,” Cuyler said. “Nothing ever comes free; you must work hard for everything you desire.”
