FULTON, NY – Dale Planck out of Homer, NY lost the lead to Larry Wight on lap 14 of the 35 lap Tracey Road Equipment Big Block Modified Feature Saturday night at the Fulton Speedway. Planck then made a late charge as he ran down Wight and regained the lead with five to go to pick up the win for car owner Carey Tarrance and his Twin Leaf Racing Team.
Other winners on Syracuse Haulers night were, Greg Mrzywka, SUNY Canton Sportsman, Alan Fink, NAPA Late Models, Doug Williams, Mod Lites, Roy Bresnahan, CT 525/Open Sportsman, Kyle DeMetro, Novice Sportsman and Jerry Herbert, Gldiators.
Dale Planck out ran Chris Hile and the rest of the field to lead the opening lap of the Tracey Road Equipment Big Block Modified field on Fulton “High Banks” that had fast grooves from top to bottom of the speedway.
With 5 laps showing on the lap counter, Planck built up a full straightaway lead as Hile, Pete Taylor, Larry Wight and Tom Sears Jr. ran in a tight pack racing for second through fifth.
At lap 10 Planck was still on cruise control out front with Hile running alone in 2nd but he soon would have company as Wight was quickly closing in. Sears and Taylor still showed in the top-five.
The only caution of the race was on lap 13 for a quick incident in turn two would erase the huge lead Planck had. On the restart, Planck chose the bottom and that was all Wight needed as he blasted into the lead to be scored the new leader.
At the halfway point Wight shot out to a half a straightaway lead as Planck, Sears, Hile and Ryan Phelps tried to keep the leader in sight.
With 10 laps to go Wight was trying to put back markers a lap down, which allowed Planck to start to close in setting up a dash to the finish. Sears, Hile and Brewerton Speedway Friday night winner Willy Decker ran third through fifth.
With Wight running the cushion and Planck the middle and the bottom the pair ran bumper to bumper and side by side in lapped traffic. Going into turn-three on lap 34 a lapped car seemed to slow cutting into Wight’s momentum that allowed Planck to shoot by and retake the lead with 5 laps to go.
Once back in the lead Planck was able to drive away for the win over Wight. Tom Sears, Jimmy Phelps and Billy Decker rounded out the top-five. Pat Ward, Chris Hile, Willy Decker, Ryan Phelps and Alan Johnson completed the top-ten.
In the 20 lap SUNY Canton Sportsman Feature Greg Mrzywka who makes the weekly two hour tow from Holley, NY pay off Saturday night as he led every lap. The win wasn’t easy as he held off Tim Schneider throughout the first half of the race then three of Fulton’s best, Jordan Bennett, Jeremy Pitcher and Tim Sears Jr. to pick up his first ever Fulton Speedway win.
What a show the NAPA Late Models put on in their 20 lap main. Alan Fink and Tim Sears Jr. ran side by side lap after lap with Sears breaking and losing the lead on lap twelve. Then it was Fink’s and Dale Caswell’s turn to put on the show running inches apart with Caswell grabbing the top-spot with three to go. Just when it looked Caswell was going to backup his opening night win Fink had other ideas on the final lap. Going into turn three Fink hammered the top groove wide open pulling even with Caswell as the pair drag raced for the checkers, at the finish line AMB scoring showed Fink the winner by 0.044 seconds. Fink related it was his first ever win at the Fulton Speedway in any division he has run.
Doug Williams grabbed the lead on lap 4 of 20 lap Mod Lite Feature and held off all challengers backing up his Friday night win at the Brewerton Speedway. Joe Isabell, Andrew Schartner, Jeff Isabell and Mike Mullen chased Williams across the line.
Larry Wight led the opening 12 laps of the 15 lap CT 525/Open Sportsman Feature before Roy Bresnahan drove by Wight to pick up his second win in a row. Mike Button, Stephen Denton and Heath Carney rounded out the top-five.
Kyle DeMetro picked up the win in the 15 lap Novice Sportsman Feature over Sean Sommers, Scott Ford, Mike Defratis and C.J Castelletti.
Jerry Herbert grabbed the lead just past the halfway point and went on to win the 20 lap Gladiator Feature. Josh Zirbel, Eric M Zirbel, Mark Johnston and Jeff Warner finished second through fifth.
This coming Saturday May 28th Ferris Mowers will present a full night of racing with the SUNY Canton Sportsman paying $100 to win the heats and $1,500 to win the feature thanks to Industrial Tire Of Central New York.
