Long time Volney resident David Canfield recently announced his intention to run on the republican ticket and is the endorsed Republican candidate for the vacant Volney Town Council seat.
Mr. Canfield is the Director of the Youth Advocate Program of Oswego County which works to keep “at-risk” youth and families together throughout Oswego County.
He has extensive experience with running and growing a business. He believes his experience working with government agencies, as well as his grant writing experience, and working within a balanced budget will serve the Volney community well. Canfield promises to serve the community to the best of his ability, in a fiscally conservative, well thought out manner.
Mr. Canfield has given high praise to the current administration for their work on business development in the area and the developing of the playground and Volney community center stating “this gives Volney a feeling of community. The track has people walking or running on it every day. There are kids with their families playing on the swings and the place is busy nearly 365 days a year.”
In addition to his service with the Youth Advocate Program, Mr. Canfield was the recipient of the 2007 Howard Wilcox Volunteer of the Year award for his work with runaway and homeless youth. He is also chair of the Oswego City County Youth Bureau Board of Directors, Co-Advisor to the Leadership Oswego County for Youth (LOCY), teaches CPR and First Aid for the Red Cross and he serves on several OCO Advisory Boards.
He lives at his home on County Route 6 home with his sons Charlie and Andrew.
