Decker Puts On A Clinic In The Modifieds At Fulton Speedway

FULTON, NY – (By Dave Medler) – Saturday night at the Fulton Speedway, Billy Decker was as hot as the temperatures outside in the Tracey Road Equipment Big Block Modifieds, as he put on a driving clinic in the 35 lap feature.

Decker started 16th and had his Bicknell working anywhere on the speedway he put his car, taking the lead from teammate Larry Wight on lap 21. Once out front Decker was the class of the field winning by almost four-seconds at the checkers.

Other winners on the night were, Tim Schneider, SUNY Canton Sportsman, Tim Sears Jr., NAPA Late Models, Kyle Fink, E&V Energy Novice Sportsman and Jerry Herbert, Parts Plus Four Cylinder Stocks. Mike Holmes, Bill Holmes and Norm Richardson won their class in the Midstate Vintage Stock Car Club.

Shane Donath and Tim Sears Jr. paced the field down to the green in the Big Block Modified feature with Sears bolting out to the early advantage.

With 5 laps complete, Sears running the cushion opened a half a straightaway lead, as Mike Mahaney running the bottom and Larry Wight the top gave chase. Steve Hulsizer and Matt Fink ran a distant fourth and fifth.

On lap 9, Mahaney had run down Sears and made a power move on the bottom out of two and looked to have the lead. Exiting turn four Mahaney turned his car around bringing out the yellow.

When the green came back out, Wight drove by Sears to be scored the new leader on lap 10.

With 15 laps showing on the scoring tower, Wight was still out front setting a quick pace. Billy Decker, who moved into second by that point was starting to chase down Wight. Sears, Pat Ward and Hulsizer battled for third through fifth.

At the halfway point, Wight and Decker ran within a car length of each other with Ward, Hulsizer and Sears still showing on the scoring tower.

After working on Wight by running the bottom, Decker was able to drive by Wight on lap 21 to take command of the race.

With 10 laps to go, Decker opened a half a straightaway lead over Wight and putting cars a lap down. Ward, Hulsizer and now Chad Phelps ran third through fifth.

Over the remaining laps and no yellows to bunch the field up, Decker  drove away for the win. Wight, Ward, Matt Hulsizer and Ryan Phelps who beat Chad Phelps by inches at the finish, rounded out the top-five.

Billy Decker talked about his win after putting his Gypsum Wholesalers/ Stadium International Trucks/Integra Race Shocks/No.91/Bicknell in victory lane.

“This thing was just supersonic tonight. I don’t know what to say, the car was just dialed in. It didn’t matter, top, bottom, it was very neutral. Scott (Jeffries) and everybody works really hard. I felt bad for everybody having to race this car tonight. This thing was just wicked”

Tim Schneider started 5th in the 20 lap SUNY Canton Sportsman feature, taking the lead on lap 4 from Earl Rudy. By the halfway point Schneider built-up a full straightaway lead, as could see the back of the field. Behind Schneider, Rudy, Justin Crisafulli, Rocco Leone and Bob Bennett fought for top-five spots.

A yellow flew on lap 13 to erase the advantage Schneider had, giving the field one last shot at Schneider and the win. Over the remaining laps Schneider was on rails as he was easily first under the checkers. Greg Mrzywka came on late for a second place finish followed by, Rocco Leone, Earl Rudy and points leader Jordan Bennett to round out the top-five.

In the NAPA Late Models, Tim Sears Jr. grabbed the lead from AJ Kingsley on lap 3. Once out front Sears was never seriously challenged the rest of the way. Johnny Hill was impressive in his debut in a Late Model finishing second. Sean Beardsley, Alan Fink and AJ Kingsley finished third through fifth.

Kyle Fink racked up his fourth win of the year in the E&V Energy Novice Sportsman. Gary Hoppins, Brandon Ford, Derek Warren and Kevin VanNorstrand chased Fink across the line.

Jerry Herbert out ran the field to win the Parts Plus Four Cylinder Stock feature. Matt Dawson, Skip DeGroff, Sam Curcie and Clifford Crow finished second through fifth.
