FULTON, NY – (By Dave Medler) – A huge crowd, NASCAR Stars Kasey Kahne and Tony Stewart, 410 Sprint Cars plus a highly competitive SUNY Canton Sportsman field made for a highly successful night for both fans and racers Thursday night at the Fulton Speedway.
Kasey Kahne served as Grand Marshal and was very visible throughout most of the night with fans and during the question and answer session on the front straightaway with Tony Stewart. Stewart was there to race, as he strapped into his 410 Sprint Car to compete against the UNOH All-Star Circuit Of Champions.
In time trials for the UNOH All-Star Circuit Of Champions Sprints, Ohio’s Dale Blaney set fast time in the 25 car field. Heat wins went to, Stewart Friesen, Caleb Helms and Tony Stewart. Dale Blaney not only won his heat but also the Outerwears Performance Products Dash.
In the 30 lap A-Main, Pennsylvania Posse member Lance Dewease was the class of the field leading every lap. A couple of times drivers in the top-five could get close to Dewease in traffic but never close enough to mount a serious challenge. The racing for second on back was nose to tail and side by side using every inch of the Fulton high bank. When the checkers flew Stewart Friesen, Tim Shaffer, Danny Holtgraver and Dale Blaney finished second through fifth. Friesen was awarded the Hard Charger Of The Race.
Talk with the fans after the A-Main was that of local modified stars Stewart Friesen and Larry Wight. Neither driver wheels a 410 sprint on a regular basis. Both drivers pulling down a top-ten was impressive against drivers who make a living in the methanol burning cars.
Beth Schneider related that the first win is always the toughest. On July 6th Schneider grabbed her first ever SUNY Canton Sportsman win at the Fulton Speedway. It didn’t take her long to make a return trip to victory lane. Schneider took the lead on lap 14 and then had to hold off veteran Rocky Warner for the 30 lap win in round three of the Industrial Tire Of CNY Sportsman Shootout Series. Rocky Warner, Jim Spano, Matt Janczuk and Tony Finch II came home second through fifth. With Schneider’s win she now goes to the automatic redraw for the Industrial Tire Of CNY Sportsman Shootout on Outlaw 200 Weekend October 4-5.
This coming Saturday, July 20 the Fulton Speedway will swing back into racing action. The Sunoco Fulton Ethanol Facility, sponsors of the prestigious “Outlaw 200” October 4-5 will present a night of family, fun, racing entertainment. On the race card will be the Tracey Road Equipment Big Block Modifieds, SUNY Canton Sportsman, NAPA Late Models, E&V Energy Novice Sportsman and Four Cylinder Stocks.
Parents, it’s time for the Jr. Fan Club members to hit the speedway for their bike races. Just bring their bikes and their helmets and they’re ready to race.
