Director to screen, speak about rebel chef in ‘Cafeteria Man’

OSWEGO — SUNY Oswego’s On Screen/In Person series on Feb. 26, will feature a documentary about a rebel chef who wondered what kids are being fed in public schools, and did something about it.

Director and cinematographer Richard Chisolm will answer questions following the 7 p.m. screening at Oswego Cinema 7, 138 W. Second St., of “Cafeteria Man,” which brings audiences up close and personal with school food reform and the red tape involved in making a change.

“Cafeteria Man” tells the true story of Tony Geraci and his mission to radically reform the way kids eat in the nation’s schools. Chisholm said it concerns overhauling a dysfunctional system, what is possible when citizens come together and what it takes, and whom it takes, to make solutions happen.

Chisolm is an Emmy-winning filmmaker and cinematographer with over 25 years of production experience.

Based in Baltimore, he has shot films and television programs on a wide variety of subjects in the United States and abroad.

Committed to the value of real stories and real people, Chisolm is the recipient of a Peabody Award, Alfred I. duPont-Columbia University journalism award, two Kodak Vision awards and three CINE Golden Eagles.

Tickets for “Cafeteria Man” cost $7 for adults, $5 for seniors and $3.50 for students and can be purchased at Oswego Cinema 7 in advance, from any campus box office or online through

“Cafeteria Man” — sponsored by SUNY Oswego’s Artswego performing arts presentation organization and the college’s cinema and screen studies department, with support from Zurich Cinemas as well as from the Oswego Film Club and Oswego Film Group — is the fourth installment of On Screen/In Person this season.
