Do This This Weekend: Hannibal HS Play

The weather’s played havoc with the annual musical at Hannibal High School, but the show will go on on Saturday.

The school cannot tell you the name of the play because of licensing restrictions from the play’s creator (which seems kinda crazy to us).  But they can tell you that the play won Tony awards in 2005.

And it seems to involve some kind of competition among young people.

To us, that adds up to only one show: “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee”.

Whatever you call it, the curtains open Saturday at 1:00 p.m. and again at 7:15 p.m.  The evening performance is new — ticket holders will be accommodated with the same or similar seats, we’re told.

Here are a few photos from the show’s rehearsals:

Here’s the heart of a press release on the play, which makes sure to give everyone credit:

Students began rehearsals in early December under the direction of Mrs. Shirley Terrinoni, Hannibal High School Instrumental Music teacher. Assisting Mrs.Terrinoni in preparing the production are
Jodi Costello, Dan Williams, Jim Terrinoni, Louise Kellogg, Wendy Johnson, Michelle Woodworth and Linda Samuels.

The story brings a group of middle school students together for a competition. They are a unique group with diverse backgrounds who, when brought together, discover they may not be as different at they thought. Add in adults, who have a background story as well, and you have a story with a message of perseverance and acceptance.

The cast and crew of the musical include seasoned veterans of Hannibal musicals as well as novices to the stage. Starring in the musical are William Black, Carrie Ann Woodworth, E.J. Somers, Evan Black, Emily Terry, Meghan Gillen, Gabrielle Tuttle, Emily Weldin and Anthony Nappa. Featured performers are Jayme Fradenburgh, Tiana Rappelye, Lisa Black, Rita LaPage, Lena Coudeville, Derrick Phillips, Shaylene Harris and Perry LaPage.

The Stage Crew of Michael Miano, Tyler Nixon and Zach Braun handle setting, lights and sound.

Pit Band members are Liz Carvey, Anita Dowling, Chelsea Herrmann, Chrissy King, Suzanne King, Mackenzie Malone, John Pittorf and Jim Terrinoni

Tickets are available on the night of the performance. Please check the Hannibal Central School District web site for additional information at:
