The quilt was made and donated to Dollars for Scholars by the children in the after-school program at DMK Middle School in Hannibal.

The after-school program is operated by Oswego County Opportunities.

OCO After School provides quality programming to students is Hannibal’s DMK Middle School and Fulton Junior High School.

Students participate in hands-on learning, leadership, community service, and STEAM activities.

Chapter President Louis Gilbert presented O’Bryan with the quilt.

She was delighted to have it, as she retired from driving bus for the school district.

The quilt will be a tangible reminder of the children she worked with.

Hannibal Dollars for Scholars provides scholarships to graduates of Hannibal High School each year.

This quilt raffle netted enough profit to provide a scholarship, with extra toward a second scholarship.

The number of scholarships awarded varies due to the amount of funds raised through events and donations during the previous year.

The Duck Derby is the largest fundraiser, providing four scholarships each year.

In 2017, in addition to the Duck Derby and Gas Card Raffle fundraisers, donations from the the Hannibal Country Cruizers, Sterling Stage and several community members made it possible for 17 students to receive scholarships.

Scholarships for 2018 will be awarded in June.

Donations and assistance with fundraising efforts are needed, as the number of students in need is rising, while funds have been depleted.
