Dolores Irene Dempsey, 81, of Oswego, formerly of Fulton, passed away Saturday after a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born in Fulton, a daughter to the late George and Gladys Pooler. Dolores graduated from Fulton High School in 1948 and from the St. Louis Institute of Music in 1951. Dolores was a musical virtuoso of concert pianist caliber and was a music teacher for over 55 years, teaching piano and organ.
She was instrumental in the formation and operation of Dempsey’s Sports shops in Fulton, Oswego, and Syracuse, serving as a bookkeeper for many years.
Dolores enjoyed her family, traveling, bird watching, gardening, reading, attending car shows with her husband and all forms of music. She was a past member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Fulton Garden Club. Dolores was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Oswego.
In addition to her parents, Dolores was predeceased by a daughter, Rhonna, in 1963 and by a son, Bryan, in 1964.
She is survived by her dedicated, loving husband of 59 years, John W. “Bill” Dempsey; three sons, Randy (Patricia) Dempsey, Mike (Lori) Dempsey and Kerry (Tina) Dempsey all of Fulton; a daughter, Michelle Dempsey of Vermont; a brother, Norman (Ann) Pooler of Fulton; sister-in-law, Marcia Ross of Florida; eight grandchildren; six great grandchildren, and two nephews. She is also survived by her faithful dogs, Inky and Lucy.
There will be no calling hours. Memorial services are 7 p.m. Wednesday at Trinity United Methodist Church, Oswego.
