Loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister
Doris passed away peacefully at the age of 86 on April 7, 2011 at St. Luke’s Health Facility in Oswego, NY. She was born in Elmira, NY on Sept. 8, 1924 to Viola M. (Stull) and Thomas H. Kisor. At a young age the family moved to Canandaigua, NY.
Doris was preceded in death by husband Charles “Chuck” Childs in 1985, great-grandson Micah Berkebile in 1994, husband William F. Welch in 2002, and sister Elizabeth Frederick in 2009.
Doris started her career working for The Maris’s at The Goodie Shoppe, worked a short time at Eastman Kodak, Loblaws, The Town Pump Restaurant, and retired in 1984 at the Pumpernickle Restaurant (again working for the Maris’s). She enjoyed working as a waitress, she had a smile that made one feel welcome and she enjoyed learning about those she was serving.
On Feb. 3, 1951 she married Chuck Childs. They were together for 34 years. They lived in Shortsville, NY where they raised their daughters, ran a family business and were involved with the Shortsville Shamrocks Drum and Bugle Corps for 15 years.
On Dec. 1, 1988 she married William Welch. They were together for 13 years and spent their winters in Del Ray Beach, FL, where she loved the sunshine. Their summers were spent in Canandaigua, NY at Holiday Harbour where she loved being by the water. They enjoyed boating and traveling: one of her favorite trips was a two week Alaskan cruise.
She loved her time with her family, friends and dancing (even if it meant on ice skates or roller skates) bowling, entertaining her family and friends, playing cards, especially at the local Salvation Army.
Surviving are her three daughters, Charlene (Robert) Ianuzzi of Kissimmee, FL; Joanne (Peter) Reidy of Minetto, NY; Denise (Kevin) Perry of Canandaigua, NY; a sister Mary (Ross) Penner of Venice, FL; 8 grandchildren, Nora (Ross) Berkebile of Forsyth, GA; Sara Ianuzzi of Kissimmee, FL; Brett Ianuzzi of Kissimmee, FL; Danielle (Tarik) Smith of Walworth, NY; Corie (Jon) Felton of Manchester, NY; Kevin “KC” (Amy) Perry of Walworth, NY; Megan (Kyle) Norton of Greece, NY; Peter (Jessica) Reidy of San Rafael, CA; 11 great grandsons; 3 great granddaughters; 2 great grandsons due in June and August; nieces, nephews and many loving friends.
Funeral services will be held on May 7, 2011 at 11:00a.m. from St. John’s Episcopal Church, 183 N. Main St., Canandaigua, NY. Burial will follow at Brookside Cemetery in Shortsville, NY.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society or the Salvation Army.
