STERLING, IL Ã¢â‚¬â€œ Dorothy Garner Hanlon, 80, of Sterling, Illinois died at 7:25 a.m. Thursday, March 4th at CGH Medical Center in Sterling.
She was born September 15, 1929 in Jasper, Tennessee, the daughter of John Garner and Lucille (Allen) Wille. She married Edward F. Hanlon of Alton, Illinois on December 29, 1950. In 1977, she and her family relocated to Fulton, New York where her two youngest children, Shamus and Mollie, attended G. Ray Bodley High School. In 1981, she and Edward moved to Lawrenceburg, Indiana with Anchor Glass, retiring in 1990 when they settled in Sterling.
Dorothy was deeply devoted to her family and faith. She was an active member of S.S. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Alton, Holy Family Catholic Church, Fulton, St. Lawrence Parish, Lawrenceburg and St. MaryÃ¢â‚¬â„¢s Catholic Church, Sterling.
Surviving are three sons, Dr. Shawn P. (Nancy) Hanlon of Sterling, Cullen F. Hanlon of Northbrook, IL, and E. Shamus (Kim) Hanlon of Evanston, IL; one daughter, Mollie K. (Dr. Martin J. Corless) Hanlon of Clarks Hill, IN, eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.?She was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Mae Mugge, Sissy Hawkins and Lee Cornwell, and her beloved husband Edward who died on December 25, 2009.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Friday, March 19th at Staten-Fine Funeral Home, 220 Court Street, Alton, IL. Celebration of the Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 20 at S.S. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Alton with the Rev. Delix Michel presiding. Burial services will follow at St. PatrickÃ¢â‚¬â„¢s Catholic Cemetery in Alton. Arrangements will be completed by Staten-Fine Funeral Home.
