Dorothy H. (Veen) Whelley, 77, a resident of 76 Ellen Street in Oswego, passed away Monday, at her home.
Dorothy was born in Oswego, the daughter of the late Fred and Marie Veen. She was a life resident.
Prior to her retirement, she was a dedicated and loyal employee of the Hammermill Corp. in Oswego, for many years. She served in the position of Secretary to the Mill Manager during her entire career at Hammermill.
Dorothy loved her neighbors, and took great joy in spending time with the neighborhood children, and in watching them grow, throughout the years.
She was the wife of the late John “Shuffle” Whelley, the love of her life, who died in 2009.
She will be greatly missed by her daughter and son-in-law, Christine and Benjamin Metcalf of Rochester; her two grandchildren, whom she adored, Marna Metcalf of Syracuse, and John Patrick Metcalf of Rochester; a brother, Carl Veen; a sister, Catherine (James) Foederer; many nieces and nephews, including Connie Flynn, Charles Carney, Marnie Molinich, Susan Brewster, Derek Brewster, William Brewster, Christopher Foederer, and Jamie Foederer; several great-nieces and nephews; and many special and cherished friends.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by two sisters, Eleanor Brewster and Margaret McGee; and two brothers, Frederick and Richard Veen.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30am Friday, at the Dain-Cullinan Funeral Home, with the Rev. Bruce Schrader officiating.
Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held from 4:00 to 7:00pm Thursday, at the funeral home, 112 East Second Street in Oswego.
