Douglas Walter Aldrich, age 94, of Prestwick Chase, died peacefully on Saturday, January 7, 2017 at Mary’s Haven in Saratoga Springs with his loving family by his side. Douglas was born on January 31, 1922 in Addison, NY and was the son of the late Walter E. and Mildred (Donaldson) Aldrich. He had lived in Saratoga for the past one and a half years and was previously of Queensbury, NY. Douglas was a graduate of Addison High School. He served with the US Marine Corps from 1942-1945 until his discharge as Sergeant. He earned his Bachelor’s degree at Mansfield State College, PA and later, his Master’s degree at St. Lawrence Unitversity. After hard work and dedication his Doctorate of Education was awarded from SUNY, Buffalo. From 1960-1977 he had a rewarding career as a professor and Director of Student Teaching at SUNY Oswego.
He was the beloved husband of Lois “Terry” (Chapman) Aldrich; father of Betsey L. (Scott A.) Snyder of Clifton Park; loving grandfather of Alexis R. (Fiance Robert K. Platt) Cohen of Washington, DC.
Interment with full military honors will be Friday, January 13, 2017 at 2:00 PM at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Rd., Schuylerville, NY.
