Ahmad Al-Salameh, MD, has been appointed Medical Laboratory Director at Oswego Hospital.
Dr. Al-Salameh, who has worked in the department for nearly ten years, said it had been his career goal to lead the department of 45 employees. In his new position, he said he was looking forward to overseeing the operation of the lab, its staff and working one-on-one with physicians.
Dr. Al-Salameh, originally from Jordan, attended medical school at The Free University of Berlin. He fulfilled a five-year pathology residency in Galveston, Texas, and then completed two years of tumor pathology at Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo.
As medical laboratory director, Dr. Al-Salameh is responsible for supervising all aspects of the anatomic and clinical laboratory at Oswego Hospital. Pathologists spend most of their time in the laboratory, working diligently with a microscope to diagnose a variety of diseases. The pathologist can render a diagnosis on a variety of specimens: biopsies, tissue, surgical excisions, body fluid, and Pap smears, just to name a few.
Dr. Al –Salameh lives in Oswego with his wife, Zainab Allboan, and their four children, who range in age from 14 to 20.
