Fulton, NY – United Way of Greater Oswego County wants new parents to know that children actually do come with directions. Thanks in part to sponsorship from Dr. Padma Ram, The United Way’s book, Children Do Come with Directions; A Guide for Parents, is now in it’s third printing.
A comprehensive guide that is filled with must have information the book provides first time parents with tips and strategies that will help them develop into responsible and effective parents.
“Good parenting is not easy,” said Melanie Trexler, executive director, United Way of Greater Oswego County. “It can be both a joy and a challenge. Time, skill, and patience are required. Parents often have questions or problems and don’t know where to find the answers. This book helps answer many of those questions and provides an extensive list of parental resources. Our planning committee worked closely with many agencies on the preparation and research and they compiled this book. Children Do Come with Directions; A Guide for Parents is wonderful resource.”
Dr. Ram echoed those thoughts and praised those who compiled the information for the book.
“When I first saw the book I realized how beneficial it would be to provide new parents with such vital information,” said Padma Ram, M.D. “Parents are a child’s first teacher. Both parents are very important in developing an intelligent and caring child. Your child’s brain began to develop while you were pregnant and continues to develop rapidly after birth. But a child’s brain needs positive stimulation to develop properly. Love your baby and spend time holding, talking, touching and seeing things together. Read books, look at pictures, sing songs and have fun with your child. These activities will stimulate your child’s physical, intellectual, and emotional development. Children Do Come with Directions; A Guide for Parents will help alleviate some of the anxiety and questions that comes with being new parents. I am happy to be involved with this publication and am looking forward to sharing it with my patients.”
Trexler said that funding from Dr. Ram, along with major funding from Entergy, have made it possible to have Children Do Come with Directions; A Guide for Parents reprinted and available to new parents throughout Oswego County.
“To date we have distributed more than 4,000 copies of the book and anticipate distributing many more in the future. None of this would be possible with the support we have received from Dr. Ram and Entergy. Their concern for our future of our families is commendable,” said Trexler.
