Edward Holmes, 81, a resident of Oswego, passed away January 9, 2012 at Sunrise Nursing home.
Born in Fulton, NY, he was the son of the late Floyd and Gertrude (LaBeef) Holmes.
Ed was employed at the East Side Treatment Plant in Oswego. He previously worked as a Mechanic for the County garage.
He enjoyed boxing and was known as the “Canvas back kid”.
Surviving are his wife, Hazel (Worden) Holmes; a daughter, Judith (Dave) Burnett of Arkansas; two sons, Edward (Sioux) Holmes of Florida and Thomas Holmes of Fulton; three brothers, Steve (Debbie) Holmes of Florida; Robert (Wendy) Holmes of PA; Norman (Marlene) Holmes of Hannibal; three sisters, Patricia (Mark) Denny of Scriba; Carolyn (Roger) Wallace of Oswego; Lizzy Bradshaw of Oswego; four grandchildren, Edward Holmes III, Amy Hoey, Heather Worley and David Burnett Jr.; fourteen grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brothers, Floyd F. Holmes Jr. and James Holmes and his sisters, Bertha Barlow, Mary Sawyer, Alberta Catalone, Shirley Dunsmoor and Margaret Mullen.
Funeral Services will be held 7p.m. Thursday, at the Nelson Funeral Home. Calling hours will be held 4-7p.m., Thursday, prior to the service at the funeral home, 11 West Albany St. Oswego.
Spring burial will be in Oswego Town Rural Cemetery.
