OSWEGO, NY – Edward J. Bernot, 95, a resident of East Albany Street passed away on Sunday morning December 16, 2012, at Oswego Hospital.
Born in Harrisville, Rhode Island, he was the son of the late Stanuslaus and Mary (Tonderys) Bernot and had attended Oswego schools.
He was employed with Marxsons which later became Golbergs for many years and later was employed with Alcan for seven years.
Mr. Bernot was a veteran of World War II, serving with the United States Army in the Pacific Theatre.
He was a member of the Oswego Polish Club.
He was a carpenter who built many family home from the ground up.
Edward was best known as MacGyver because he could fix anything for family and friends.
Surviving are his daughter, Gloria Bonito of Portsmouth, New Hampshire; and nieces and nephews among whom are David (Karen) Decaire of Scriba.
He was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Ann Bernot, on September 28, 2009.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 3 p.m. from the Dowdle Funeral Home.
Burial will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 1-3 p.m. prior to the service.
