Plattsburgh, N.Y. – The Oswego State women’s basketball lost a 75-63 contest at Plattsburgh on Saturday afternoon.
With the loss, the Lakers fall to 6-17 on the season and 2-14 in SUNYAC play while the Cardinals improve to 17-5, 12-3.
Oswego held its only lead at 9-8 with 16:00 showing on the clock in the first half after a Paula Egelston layup.
Plattsburgh hit a 3-pointer the next time down the floor and then continued to stretch its lead to 42-27 at the break.
Over the first 10 minutes of the second stanza, the Cardinals were able to extend their advantage to 30 points, holding a 65-35 lead.
The Lakers did their best to try and close the gap, going on an 11-0 run over the next four minutes to cut the deficit to 65-46.
Oswego closed the game on a 12-3 run over the final 2:57 but it was not enough as Plattsburgh held on.
All 11 Lakers that appeared in the contest scored, led by Haley Witchella’s 12 points. Witchella , along with Egelston, paced Oswego on the glass, each collecting eight rebounds on the day.
Jenn Robbins and Heather Hebert were second on the team in scoring at Plattsburgh, finishing with eight points apiece.
Oswego had 11 more bench points than the Cardinals (33-22) while being edged in rebounding by just four (44-40). Both teams finished with the same number of steals (10) and second chance points (14) while the Lakers turned the ball over one less time than Plattsburgh (19-18).
Oswego returns to action at 6 p.m. on Tuesday when Brockport comes to Max Ziel Gymnasium for the women’s last home game of the season.
