Ellen P. (Leroy) Maxon, 87

OSWEGO, NY – Ellen P. (Leroy) Maxon, 87, died at home at St. Luke’s Apartments on Tuesday November 17, 2015, following a brief illness.

Mrs. Maxon was predeceased by her husband, Edward L. Maxon; son-in-law, Patrick Sullivan; and by her siblings, Francis (Brud), John (Jack), Roseanne Leroy, and Mary Noreen (Sis) Mayer.

A lifelong resident of Oswego, she was the daughter of Charles and Rose Leroy, and grew up in a close-knit neighborhood on West Fifth Street near Oswego Harbor.

She graduated from St. Mary’s School and Oswego High School before working as an operator for New York Telephone.

After they married in 1956, Ellen and Ed Maxon made their home on East Oneida Street and later spent happy times at their lakeside camp on Milea Beach.

They enjoyed traveling together, especially to Hawaii and Aruba.

Ellen was very active in her community, connecting with friends through senior trips, the Knights of Columbus, the Telephone Pioneers, and at countless sporting events over the years.

Survivors include her children: Sue Sullivan, Patricia, Edward C. (Heidi Hartwich) and Michael (Georgia) Maxon; and her grandchildren, Myles (Kristen) and Kelsey Maxon, and Patrick and Elizabeth Sullivan.

Ellen Maxon will be deeply missed by friends of all ages; her “third daughter” Linda Katzman; her sisters-in-law; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Calling hours will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday November 23, at Dain Cullinan Funeral home.

A Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday the 24, at St. Paul’s Church, Oswego.

Burial will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery.

Contributions in Ellen’s memory may be made to Friends of Oswego County Hospice, PO Box 102, Oswego, NY 13126, — or remember Ellen as you brighten someone’s day with a greeting card or an act of kindness.
