The annual scholarship was established in 2005, upon the passing of Elmer G. Hadlow, a longtime resident of Oswego, and strong advocate of music in the Oswego community. Hadlow sang for over 50 years in church choirs, barbershop quartets and choruses throughout Oswego County and Central New York.

The annual scholarship winner receives a check for $500.

“We are very pleased to announce the recipient for the scholarship this year,” said Hadlow’s family members. “Emily has shown a strong passion for music, and is very deserving of the scholarship to assist in her continued commitment to music in college.”

Through the years, King has participated in numerous musical activities. She played trumpet in the school bands for nine years, including jazz and marching band for six years, area all state band & orchestra, conference all state, NYSSMA, musical pit orchestra for OHS and Fitzhugh Schools, Crane youth music, and Syracuse youth orchestra.

Emily King, is the daughter of Howard and Sandra of Oswego. She will be attending The SUNY Potsdam Crane School of Music where she plans to study Music Business and Performance (Trumpet). She hopes to one day have a career in the film, music or artist management industries.
