Contributed by Emily Bradshaw
Thanksgiving has come and gone.
But it has left me with memories that I will never forget.
I have so many things to be thankful for.
I am thankful for the community that has shown my mission to help the homeless unending support and generosity.
I am so thankful for my family, without their help my mission would not be possible.
I am thankful I was able to spend time at the Salvation Army on Thanksgiving.
I handed out more than 60 gift bags containing personal care items, hats, gloves and scarves.
I had the privilege of meeting some very nice men, women, a toddler and even an “oh so cute” baby.
Seeing the joy these simple gift bags brought these people will stay with me forever.
The holiday season is now upon us.
The shopping frenzy has begun.
Christmas decorations are going up.
And Emily’s Mission continues on.
Don’t get caught up in the “gimmies or must haves” and please remember how fortunate you are.
There are so many people who don’t even have the simple basics of life.
There were 800 calls to Oswego County Opportunities Homeless Hotline in the past nine months.
Homelessness is a crisis that needs a solution.
My mission to get a homeless shelter in Oswego County is more important than ever with a harsh winter coming.
I am still talking to area leaders and businessmen about a shelter.
I will not quit on this mission!
I truly believe Christmas is a time of magic and miracles and all things are possible.
Over 6,500 personal care items have been donated for my collection for the homeless.
I have been able to make and distribute 640 personal care bags (each bag contains 10-12 items) for the homeless.
These bags not only give people necessary items, but they remind the homeless that we care about them and that they are not alone.
It gives them hope.
This holiday season please give to those who are less fortunate.
