The 18th Annual Lady Buccaneer Softball Minicamp will be held June 30, July 1 and 2 at the Oswego High School fields, according to Oswego High School coach Mike McCrobie.
The camp has a rain date of July 3. The cost is $45 per player. Enrollment is limited to the first 50 players. There is a sibling discount available, where additional players from the same family can enroll for a lesser fee.
All players will receive a commemorative Oswego softball souvenir as well as a playerÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â€šÂ¬Ã¢â€žÂ¢s report card of what to work on for the upcoming season.
Daily instruction will be as follows: Ages 9-12, 9 a.m. until noon; ages 13-16, 1-4 p.m.
Activities will include stretching, throwing, position play, baserunning, team defense, hitting, bunting, sliding, and mini-games.
McCrobie, the OHS varsity softball coach, will lead the group of instructors. He has guided the Lady Buccaneers to three Section III championships, four Onondaga High School League titles, and five times has been named Onondaga High School League Coach of the Year. He was named New York State Coach of the Year in 1995.
Also providing instruction will be veteran coaches Brad Shannon and Tom Frawley. They have coached in the OHS athletic department for decades, and are currently coaching the successful JV and middle school softball teams, respectively.
The rest of the staff will be comprised of current and former Oswego High School players. In the past, the camp staff has consisted of OHS alumni who have gone on to play college softball and/or coach at various levels from youth to college. In past camps, returning alumni have included Ali Canale (Cortland State), Mollie Schneible (St. John Fisher), Samantha Todd (Cazenovia College), Nicole Natoli (Nazareth College), Jenna Wyman (Barry University), Susan Sugar (Le Moyne College), Katie Frawley (Illinois Wesleyan) Meg Runeari (American University), Nikki Taylor (R.I.T.), Kelly Owings (Union College) and others.
