OSWEGO – A public reception was held at the Art Association of Oswego on Saturday, July 12th, for three separate shows. New this year is a fundraising show of work in circular or oval format called Full Circle. These round-format works, done by various members of the Art Association, are available for 20 dollars each. This continuing fundraiser supports
the Art Association’s children’s programs and other events, and is on display in the Kirk Beason Gallery on the first floor. A small display of photographs opened in the alcove in the lobby of the Art Center, with works by Susanna Estrella-DeMott…a mix of striking urban and rural landscapes.
On the second floor, in the Timothy McHenry Gallery, the 35th Annual Art Association Members’ Exhibition debuted. This show features nearly 100 recent works by local artists, in a diversity of mediums. The optional theme for this show was “food”. The best food-themed award will be determined by popular vote and will be announced on August 3rd the last day of the show.
A number of awards were given out at the opening reception along with two solo show awards. The solo show awards were decided by members of the Art Association of Oswego board. Painter Sarah Irland and woodturner Robert Love were offered opportunities for solo shows in the 2026 exhibition year. The remaining awards were judged by Jacob Dodd, who is a photographer and independent filmmaker who also teaches in the Cinema Studies Department at SUNY Oswego.
First place and an award for $150 was given to Rose Besch for her watercolor titled Dinnertime. Second place and an award for $100 was given to Marybeth Sorendo for her ceramic Garden Plate. Third place and an award for $75 was given to Doug Farden for his colored pencil drawing titled Traffic Jams and Angry Crackers. Honorable Mentions were awarded to the following artists: Maggie Henry, Addie Castaldo, Robert Clark, Carl Patrick, Charlotte Arcadi, Lee Shelton, and Liz Hunt.
All shows will continue until Sunday, August 3rd. Regular gallery hours at the Art Association of Oswego are from 10 am to 1 pm on Saturdays, from 1 to 4 pm on Sundays, from 10 am to 2 pm on Wednesdays and from 5 to 8 pm on Thursdays.
