Christmas Show Auditions at the Oswego Players

OSWEGO – The Oswego Players are holding auditions for their December production of “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever”.  There are roles for four adult males (aged 17 – 70), six adult females (aged 17 – 70), and 17-20 children (ages 5 – 16). Auditions will be held on Sunday October 5th from 11am-12:30pm, and Monday October 6th from 5pm-6:30pm at the Frances Marion Browne Theater in Oswego.

The auditions will be a cold reading from the script. No prior experience is necessary, just the desire to contribute to a wonderful, magical performance that will bring the Christmas spirit to the community.

“The Best Christmas Pageant Ever” is the finale to the Oswego Players’ event-filled 2025 season. This delightful play, based on the children’s novel by Barbara Robinson, is a Christmas classic, beloved by audiences wherever it is performed.

In the play, a couple struggling to put on a church Christmas pageant is faced with casting the Herdman kids – probably the most inventively awful kids in history. Audiences won’t believe the mayhem – and the fun – when the Herdmans collide head-on with the story of Christmas! Along with plenty of great roles for children and adults, the show features several favorite Christmas carols, and lots of laughs.

Director Jennifer Hitchcock has a strong track record of bringing Christmas shows to the stage, with an emphasis on children’s performances. “The adults are the necessary cement that binds the shows together, but the kiddos are the real stars,” she said. “I love seeing kids blossom with the chance of being on stage, knowing that sometimes it can be a life-changing experience for them. I’m not necessarily looking for established talent – what I am looking for is those who are willing to give of their all, and to commit to the rehearsals and performances while having fun in a safe environment.”

Performance times and dates for “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever” are 7:30pm on Fridays and Saturdays, December 5th, 6th, 12th and 13th, and 2pm Sundays, December 7th and 14th.
